CHOKRA
Multimedia performance artist CHOKRA harnesses music, rhymes, light, pyrotechnics, video, scents, vivid powders, traditional ceremonial practices and attire to present performances full of joy that challenge the status quo. “I am motivated by following the path of joy,” the artist says. “I am interested in art that reflects the time we live in, considers consciousness in [its] entirety and situates the potentialities of the future in a rendition that is unapologetic and unafraid of the repercussions it creates.” Originally from the United Arab Emirates, CHOKRA moved to New York to find freedom to pursue their work.
CHOKRA has presented work at MoMA (New York), MoMA PS1 (New York), The Watermill Center (New York), Saatchi Gallery (London), Guggenheim (Bilbao), New Museum (New York), Kumu Kunstimuuseum (Tallinn), Kunstmuseum (Basel), Centre Pompidou (Paris), Drawing Center (New York), Caixaforum Museum (Barcelona), Art Basel (Miami and Basel), among numerous venues and museums worldwide.
