Donna Lipowitz: Lift to Experience
11” x 11” wall hanging and 20ml liquid
Lift to Experience artfully weaves perfume inserts from American Fashion Magazines from the years 2020-2023, creating a singular, multi-brand scent work that draws on the nostalgia associated with the analogue era, print media, and old school craft techniques. Perfume is an ephemeral art form, constantly evolving and reacting. The work underscores the transient nature of perfumery, reflecting on how perfumes—much like the paper they are advertised on—cannot be preserved indefinitely; they change and evolve, yet sometimes retain a familiar scene. The artist’s expiring unpublished perfumes and practice accords were used as perfume materials to create an interpretation of the glossy paper magazine inserts woven together.
